The Trustees met in March to assess the student applications and make the annual awards. It felt like a special occasion this year, meeting face to face again after so many Zoom meetings. As usual, some applications stood out from the rest and it was a pleasure to see some special talents showing great promise having overcome the set-backs of the pandemic.
We made awards to 20 students this year, students from Newark, Merton and West Dean colleges. Some were rewarded for impressive work shown in their applications, others had smaller awards offering help and encouragement. Details of the individual awards are listed on this page: https://rabtrust.org/rabtrust-awards/2022/
Work placements have been awarded this year with the confidence that there will be no further problems associated with Covid outbreaks and will be going ahead as hoped.
We are pleased to offer help for suitable students to attend short courses being offered by the BVMA, which can offer extra tuition in important areas like restoration, set-up and choosing wood. The BVMA have set aside places for RAB Trust award winners – it offers students a chance to make contacts in the profession while gaining valuable experience learning with experienced makers. This year we are inviting 2nd and 3rd year students from Newark to apply for a Special Award to attend the BVMA Restoration course.
We are most grateful to Education Services for the grant we receive annually, which funded 3 awards this year and also helped to finance the Zoom lectures held last year during and beyond the lockdown.
