Student at Newark School of Violin Making
RAB award 2017
Ines was awarded funding for fittings for her cello and was also given a copy of the book ‘Violin Making in Scotland’.
One of the projects I was working on in my last year at Newark School of Violin Making in 2017 was making a cello. The model I chose was a Pietro Giacomo Rogeri cello from 1717 and I was very lucky to be in constant contact with a maker who has made this particular model many times and who was willing to share valuable information with me. With his generous exchange of knowledge I gained a better understanding of the model which allowed me to reach a satisfactory result.
One very important part of finalizing the instrument was to choose the right fittings and strings! In my eyes, putting a lot of effort in the making of an instrument also implies the need for good quality fittings so I made the decision to get simple but nice looking ebony fittings from Tempel and was very fortunate to receive financial support from the RAB trust towards the purchase of cello fittings.
Without the help of the Trust I would not have been able to acquire good quality accessories for my instrument, so I am very grateful. Thank you!”
