  • Give information about what you wish to finance and your reasoning behind this choice. Examples of such financial support could be: Purchase of tools, wood, books, funding travel, or further study. We normally make awards of up to £750. Please ensure you provide a full breakdown of your costs, for example: "Violin reamer - Dictum - £120", "Violin wood - From David Dyke - £250".

  • If you would like a placement, please say what work you are interested in; making, restoration, a particular instrument or bow work. (Some expenses are available - £100 for a one day placement and up to £250 for a longer placement).
  • If you have selected to apply for a course please support your application with your reasons and any experience you have had which is relevant.
  • Write no more than 150 words to introduce yourself. Include how you became interested in instrument making, but also your interests away from the bench.
  • Write no more than 150 words about how you think an award will help your studies.
  • What are your sources of income, i.e grants, part-time work, parental support.
  • Each photo must be no more than 12mb in size.

    First year students:
    photo of yourself, preferably at the bench and up to 4 pictures of your work, free choice.

    Second year students:
    photo of yourself, preferably at the bench;
    2 closeup shots of setup (choose from pegs, nut, saddle and bridge) and up to 4 further pictures of your work, free choice (before and after of a specific repair counts as one picture).

    Third year students:
    photo of yourself, preferably at the bench;
    2 detail photos of part of an instrument, i.e. corner, scroll, f-hole;
    1 photo of a varnished instrument and up to 3 further photos
